Demystifying The Path To Private Equity

Navigating the Landscape that Comes After the Investment Banking Analyst Program

Step 8

Congratulations! If you have received an on-cycle private equity offer, it is a testament to the hard work and preparation you have invested to this point. The only thing I would highlight is the following -- do not feel pressured to sign the 1st offer that comes to you. Think deeply about the people you have met in the process and whether you have enjoyed the interactions, what they had to say about their day-to-day work, and most importantly, whether you see yourself at the firm. This is a big career decision, and while the on-cycle process moves very quickly, you should not feel forced to accept an offer to "be done with the process". Lastly, and to be brief on the matter, I'd highly recommend against "shopping" offers (i.e. leveraging them to get new interviews elsewhere) -- this is how offers get rescinded. Know that most on-cycle offers have an expiration of 24-48 hours given the level of candidate competition. If you have other interviews scheduled during this 24-48 hour window with firms of higher preference to you, do them, but do not utilize the offer you have already been given to broadly market yourself to other firms.
